STORY OF THE BAND

Sometime shortly after the invention of the electric guitar Mike Jeniges and his Uncle, Jack Kinkel, decided it was high time they started a band.  Around about 1970-something the two hit the road as "The Wier Loop Rhythm Band" along with John Colgin, Steve White, Linda Cawthon, and Mike's brother Matt. At some point (the late 70's perhaps ?) they changed their name to "The Cedar Valley Band" and its been that way since.  Over the years the personnel has changed but the name has remained, along with a few members that just keep hanging on.  Jerry Harrison (no relation to George) came along at some point on acoustic guitar, as did Steve "Hoot" Gibson, bringing his signature pedal steel sound to the mix. Over the years there's been a parade of various singers, with the current torch being carried by Mike's daughter Beth Ray.  Sadly, founding member Jack came upon some serious health concerns. Renowned local bassist Layton Depenning now covers the bottom end.  And with the addition of Ken Johnson on drums we are a full band again! There you have it!  Forty-nine years of music summed up in one long paragraph!  Come on out and see us, have a good time, and be sure to say ... "Hi Ya'll!
